TUNESDAY: “Reasons to Be Cheerful Pt. 3” by Ian Dury & The Blockheads

I’m a sucker for a nonsense song talk-sung by a British guy. Have I posted Toast on #Tunesday yet? That’s another great nonsense song talk-sung by a British guy. Stay tuned!

“Reasons to Be Cheerful, Pt. 3” is a wonderful mix of a groovy beat, a wicked guitar and saxophone solo, a charming British voice listing everyday objects that are definitely reasons to be cheerful, all accompanied by quite a lot of cowbell.

The juice of the carrot, the smile of the parrot
A little drop of claret – anything that rocks
Elvis and Scotty, days when I ain’t spotty,
Sitting on the potty – curing smallpox

I highly recommend putting this song on when you’re on your way to something you don’t really want to go to… like work, or school, or visiting a relative.. Whatever the obligation of the day may be. This should have you dancing and grooving down the street, lifting your spirits just a little bit.

I’m not sure if Ian Dury & The Blockheads made a “Reasons to Be Cheerful, Pt. 2” or “Reasons to Be Cheerful, Pt. 1” but my quick internet search says no. I guess we’ll just have to wonder what wonderful items were in the early versions, or what didn’t make the cut for part three. Maybe I should make a part four…?

Was today’s song a hit or a miss? Let me know in the comments below! Song recommendations are always welcome!
